Unveiling healthy pleasure as a man

The idea of exploring my own pleasure seemed foreign, almost taboo

It is always difficult to talk about it because the moment you do it you loose masculinity. Discussions about male pleasure with man or women often revolve around performance. Expectations, endurance, and the idea of doing things the “right” way dominate chats. That perspective never fully matched my experience.

Curiosity about my own reactions slowly pushed me toward a different kind of exploration. Paying attention to personal sensations and responses felt unfamiliar at first. The topic rarely appeared in open conversation, and the idea of exploring it alone carried a quiet sense of taboo.

Spending time observing those reactions revealed something simple. My understanding of pleasure had been shaped almost entirely by outside expectations. Very little attention had ever been directed toward how my body actually responded in private moments.

The shift happened gradually. Instead of focusing on performance or actions to do, attention moved toward sensation, rhythm, and situation. Trusting my body made small differences easier to see.

Together with my sex coach we also challenged and laughted about some long held assumptions about masculinity. My biggest take over is to realise that control, certainty, and emotional distance is the top of the iceberg for real man. Conversations with the coach helped bring some of these observations into focus. Speaking openly about pleasure, expectations, and personal habits created space to examine ideas that to me felt too feminine to experience. Those discussions helped clarify what felt authentic and what had simply been absorbed from cultural norms.

Pleasure gradually became easier to understand in broader terms. Physical sensation remained part of it, but attention, presence, and comfort with one's own reactions played an equally important role. Small shifts in awareness changed the experience more than any technique or external expectation. Seems a clichè but my girlfriends also noticed it positively.
